Gotong
Royong at Kuala Muda
January 2, 2005
Peace Club members, REPUSM staff, and other USM volunteers visited the tsunami
victims of Kuala Muda in Kedah and helped one “pak chi” cleaned his
home in a “gotong royong” or community help spirit. School of Social
Sciences lecturers, Drs. Zam and Hafizah, led the 12-member volunteer team. |

for the refugees of Kuala Muda in Kedah. |
| The
event of the tsunami devastation has seen the
infectious spirit of caring and giving in neighboring
Malaysia. Donors from the USM community—students,
lecturers, and staff, and friends from different
business establishments and other organizations,
have poured in their donations of clothes,
medicines, food, and money at the Research & Education
for Peace-USM (REPUSM) office. These contributions
were delivered directly to the refugee centers
at Kuala Mudah in Kedah, Sungai Burong, Balik
Pulau in Penang, and all the way to Aceh, Indonesia
by REPUSM mission teams.
