This book is presented in two languages—Malay and English. The author is promoting important values that can be used as the foundation to promote true and positive peace in a multicultural country, such as Malaysia. These values should be understood and socialized at all levels and groups within society, especially the younger generations who will be the future leaders. They should be proclaimed to the world with pride as part of a universal culture – that “Peace is Our Culture!”
The REPUSM Declaration of Peaceful Values:
- Rejecting violence and the use of violence in resolving all types of conflicts.
- Resolving problems and conflicts by searching for their real root causes through a process of dialogue and negotiation.
- Making unity as the foundation for peace.
- Learning and understanding the different cultures and ways of life in the world.
- Making social, economic, and political justice as the foundation for unity and peace.
- Respecting and promoting the values of human rights.
- Providing the proper channels and mechanisms for the society to air their grievances, feelings, and aspirations.
- Involving all levels and groups in society, especially women, the young, and children in all peace related activities.
- Expanding peace education at all levels of education.
- Making the culture of peace our way of life.
